Miami-Dade Aviation Department Airport Fire Rescue Division provides and coordinates all Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) protection activities in Miami-Dade County. The Airport Fire Rescue Division activities include mitigation of and response to structural and aircraft fires, as well as response to medical emergencies, fuel spills, incidents of terrorism, hazardous materials spills, bio-chemical threats, radiological exposures, natural disasters, and hazardous materials incidents.

The Division also oversees fire and life safety inspections, plans reviews, and fire protection systems code compliance for the airport facilities. The Division is responsible to both the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department and the Miami-Dade Aviation Department and responds to communities that surround the Airport on a Mutual Aid System.

Airport Fire Rescue Operations (Fire Stations 12, 25 & 59):
Airport Fire Rescue Division consists of three (3) emergency response stations: Midfield (Fire Station 12) and Northside Fire Station and Administrative Office (Fire Station 59). These two stations enable Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting personnel to respond to any emergency situation within the required response time. Another emergency response station (Fire Station25) is located at Opa-Locka Airport in Northwest Miami-Dade County. Airport Fire Rescue's responsibilities include Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting, Structural Fire Protection, Emergency Medical Services, Fuel Safety Operations, and Life Safety and Inspections.

Life Safety and Inspections Bureau:
The Life Safety and Inspections Bureau conducts inspections in occupancies within airport jurisdictions annually and recommends corrective actions for compliance with applicable Life Safety Codes. The bureau also reviews and processes permit applications and construction, renovation, and maintenance plans for compliance with Fire Codes, Life Safety Codes and the Life Safety Master Plan.

Training Bureau:
The Training Bureau has the responsibility of ensuring that all the Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting crews receive the training required.  Personnel assigned to Airport fire stations must meet Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification requirements in airport fire fighting operations. This is accomplished by arranging for live fire training annually at an approved FAA Live “Hot” Fire Training School.  In order to meet the FAA guidelines, the Training Bureau provides in-service training for personnel assigned to the stations and for the other companies that respond to the airport in emergencies.

Fuel Safety Bureau:
The Fuel Safety Bureau conducts inspection of fuel delivery systems including fuel trucks, hydrants, hydrant carts and tank farm. In addition, the bureau conducts investigations of fuel spills and other accidents for code compliance.
