Airport Security Tips

• Maintain control and do not leave personal items (purses, briefcases, electronic equipment, carry-on bags, etc.) unattended at any time in the airport or at curbside.
• Passengers are not allowed to enter areas posted as Restricted Area or Authorized Personnel Only.  Please request assistance from nearest airport personnel or Miami-Dade Airport Police.

Passenger Security Screening Checkpoints

• In accordance with the Aviation and Transportation Security Act of 2001, as of February 17, 2002, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) became responsible for the management and operation of the passenger security screening checkpoints at all U. S. airports.

At Screening Checkpoints

• Carry-on baggage will be limited to one bag plus a personal item per passenger. These personal items include a purse, briefcase, laptop or backpack. Passengers and their baggage may be subject to additional screening at the gate.
• Only ticketed passengers will be allowed beyond the screening checkpoint. If you have a medical, parental or other specific, verifiable need to accompany a ticketed passenger, please check with your airlines to determine how they would like you to proceed.
• All electronic items, such as laptop computers and cellular phones, are subject to additional screening. Please be prepared to remove your laptop from its travel case so that each can be x-rayed separately.
• Limit metal objects worn on your person or clothing. Remove metal objects such as keys, cell phones, coins, etc. prior to passing through the metal detectors to facilitate the screening process. Putting metal objects in your carry-on bag will expedite the process of going through the metal detector.

The following are some examples of items that will not be allowed through the security checkpoint. Prohibited items include: knives (any length), handguns, BB guns, toy weapons, swords, pepper spray, baseball bats, hammers, golf clubs, corkscrews, screwdrivers, stun guns, pen knives, straight razors, box cutters. While the above items are strictly prohibited from being carried into the aircraft cabin, many may be transported in checked baggage. If you have any questions, please check with your airlines. Passengers should be aware that the TSA has no provisions for returning banned items to them when they are left at the checkpoints. In addition, those who attempt to bring banned items through the checkpoint are subject to civil penalties of up to $1,100 per violation in addition to criminal penalties.
• If you have a medical condition that requires you to carry a needle and/or syringe on your person or in your carry-on baggage, you must also have the medication that requires such injection on your person. The medication must be packaged with a pharmaceutical label or professionally printed label identifying the medication.
• Please avoid carrying bottles of liquid through the screening checkpoint. The necessity of screening of these items will increase your check-in processing time. Please plan to purchase any food items you may wish to carry on board the aircraft once you have completed the screening process. Food, gifts and other services are generally available in the concourses beyond screening. If you have special dietary needs, please contact your airlines to confirm the services provided on your flight.
• If you are traveling with gifts, whenever possible, plan to wrap them after you arrive at your destination, as they may have to be unwrapped for security inspection. Due to the limitations of carry-on articles, these items should be packed in your checked luggage or shipped ahead via mail.
