- MIA's North Terminal, the Latin American and Caribbean hub for American Airlines and American Eagle, is quickly nearing completion in 2011. Twenty-three passenger gates are currently in operation and Phase I of the project, a 290,000-square-foot "front door" section that includes new areas for curbside check-in, ticket agent and self-service check-in and domestic baggage claim, opened for business on November 5, 2009.

To facilitate passenger connections this new, one-mile-long terminal, a rooftop automated people mover with four stations is being built. The Concourse D skytrain will be able to transport 9,000 passengers per hour. Four spacious, circular common areas in North Terminal will feature concessions, passenger lounges and modern architectural elements such as sky lights for natural lighting. |
The North Terminal will be occupied by American Airlines, its oneworld Alliance and code share airline partners, and will integrate American Eagle’s operation.
