In January 2005, twelve children from Foyer Maurice Sixto, a center for restaveks (domestic laborers) in Haiti, were taught to use Holga cameras. Through weekly workshops, field trips and Kids with Cameras photographic guidance, the children’s worlds expanded. They were given the rare opportunity to express themselves and simply be children. For the first time in their lives, they were recognized as individuals and artists within their own community.  Viewing these works, we are witness to the beauty, joy and sadness the children experience in their lives. The images are a public record of this invisible group and a reflection of the conditions of child labor, both in Haiti and around the world.
